First FJPPL workshop in KEK (May 9-12, 2007)

The France- Japan Particle Physics Laboratory (FJPPL) held its first workshop in KEK (Tsukuba, May 9-12). The FJPPL is a joint laboratory between French (CNRS/IN2P3 and CEA/DAPNIA) and Japanese (KEK and associated universities) research institutes.

About 90 participants including more than 30 French researchers got together to present their activities and future plans. In total 23 activities were presented ranging from ILC detectors and accelerator R&D, LHC physics, GRID computing, B and neutrinos physics as well as cosmic ray experiment and bio-medical applications. On Saturday 12th, the KEK-CEA/DSM/DAPNIA-CNRS/IN2P3 annual directorate meeting were held to discuss general collaboration between two countries. Then, the FJPPL steering committee meeting followed it to evaluate the 23 projects.

It is the first in a series aiming at strengthening the cooperation between France and countries in Asia. The FCPPL with China has been signed with the Sinica Academy of Science last month; the FKPPL with South Korea is in preparation and the FVPPL with Vietnam is currently under discussion.
