On December 2, scienctists from KEK Photon Factory participated to a joint
workshop "Innovation Tsukuba 2008", collaborating with other three academic
institutes such as: University of Tsukuba, National Institute of Advansed
Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) and National Institute for
Materials Science (NIMS). The four institutes aim to create innovative
outcomes by sharing their reseach facillities with business industries in
the field of nanostractures and nanomaterials, under a project funded by the
Japanese ministry MEXT.
The workshop started with a keynote lecture by Naoki Yokoyama of Fujitsu
Laboratories, followed by other presenters explaining case study on
promotion of industrial use and the measures for it. Masaharu Nomura,
professor of KEK, presented how the beamlines of KEK Photon Factory are being utilized, and it
attracted many attendee from private companies. The workshop was fruitful
for matching the needs for industry people to use academic reseach
facilities and for researchers of institutes to find out seeds of industrial
technoligies.
