Kokyu : Japanese fiddle
Shamisen : three-stringed Japanese lute

Tsugaru Shamisen : three-stringed lute in Tsugaru area (Northern part of Japan)





Kuniko Obina(Koto, Kokyu)

She was taught to play the koto by her mother at age three and began jiuta-sangen at age ten. She studied at the Traditional Japanese Music Course of Tokyo National Univ. of Fine Arts & Music and graduated it. She passed the Japanese Music Audition of NHK. In 1990, she began to have recitals. She actively makes recordings and has concerts abroad as well as in Japan.

Shunsuke Kimura(Fue, Tsugaru Shamisen)

He is one of the most acclaimed composers and performers on traditional instruments in Japan today. He has travelled in every corner of the country to discover the various melody, rhythm and styles of carnivals and folk music, and assimilated them in his own music-making.

Etsuro Ono(Tsugaru-Shamisen)

Born in Akita prefecture in 1972. He studied Tsugaru-syamisen from Chisato Yamada, and won the top prize at a national convention of Tsugaru-syamisen. He has been playing Tsugaru-syamisen as a member of Warabi-za in Japan and abroad. In 2009, he released an album "DUO" with Shunsuke Kimura.
