アブストラクト: The concept of neutrino factories based on muon decay has been launched in 1999 at the NuFact conference of Lyon. It revealed a number of major problems to be solved: targets standing an exceedingly high beam power, very fast acceleration of muons to deal with their short life time and cooling to improve the acceptance of the machine components. Then, in 2002, Piero Zucchelli proposed another concept where electron and anti electron neutrinos woud be created by radio active decay of heavy ion beams, the so-called beta beams. It turns out that, in the field of innovative methods of acceleration, FFAG's have raised a great interest for the muons and induction synchrotrons might find an important role in beta beams. Moreover, those machines may have rapid applications in hadron therapy. There is thus here a beautiful example of a very ambitious project in particle physics benchmarked by applications of obvious interest for mankind. Projects of hadron therapy in Europe will be reviewed and some emphasis will be put on the RACCAM project. As a spin-off of these studies, a new approach to the design of superconducting magnets will be indicated.
