アブストラクト: Parallel-plate avalanche counters (PPAC) operated at low gas pressures are known as an efficient timing and imaging tool for heavily ionizing particles. In this presentation, the properties of the PPAC are described and the current and previous research of the author on the subject of PPAC is discussed. The main topics that will be discussed are as follows: •Principle of PPAC including operation, signal waveform, construction, electronics and applications, •Determination of the first Townsend coefficient using PPAC, •Digital analysis of PPAC signals, •Neutron detection using PPAC, •Evolution of PPAC to Micromegas detector, which describe the development of a low pressure Micromegas detector dedicated to the neutron beam monitoring in spallation neutron facilities.
