The EDELWEISS experiment is searching for Weakly Interactive Massive Particules (WIMP) one of the leading candidates for the Dark Matter
in the galaxy. Germanium bolometers working at very low temperature are used with a double detection (Ionisation, Phonon) in order to reject the radiative background.
Results obtained with only one bolometer provides the best present sensibility for all WIMP mass above 30 GeV, and rule out the positive signal claimed by the DAMA experiment.
EDELWEISS is presently aasembling a new and larger setup to increase the sensitivity and will soon begin to check the domain favoured
by Supersymmetric Theories. |
