I will upon the operational experience of a prototype for the high-granularity analogue hadronic calorimeter proposed for the TESLA detector, which was tested at the DESY test beam facility. Scintillating tiles of $5\times 5\ \times 0.5~\rm cm^3$ are red out via a wavelength-shifting fiber with two types of photo detectors: Avalanche Photo-Diodes (APD) and Silicon Photo Multipliers (SiPM). Characteristics of these two photo detectors are studied and compared to the output of a standard PM. Detector noise, linearity and stability are discussed, and the energy response is compared with simulations. Plans for the construction of 1 m$^3$ prototype calorimeter for hadronic test beams are presented. |
