We discuss non-perturbative effects in the ABJM model due to monopole instantons. We begin by constructing the instanton solutions in the U(2)xU(2) model explicitly, and then compute the Euclidean action and fermion zeromodes. Based on these, we discuss the structure of instanton effects in the low energy effective theory. We also study the system of two M2 or D2-branes using supergravity frameworks and show that the structure of the higher order interactions are correctly reproduced.
