It is made possible through a new mechanism called \ninverse transition acceleration (ITA) which is an inverse process of \ntransition radiation. First, single stage ITA in free space is discussed to \nexplain the mechanism. Next, multi-stage ITA for high gradient acceleration \nover extended distance is presented, using oversized open waveguides as \nacceleration structures. Feasibility of the acceleration scheme, possible \nproof-of-principle experiment, and general approach applicable to a wide \nvariety of mechanisms of laser acceleration of electrons taking place either \nin vacuum, gases or plasmas will also be discussed.\n <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n |
