This award is described as \u201cTo recognize a career of meritorious achievements and outstanding technical contributions by a living individual in the field of applied superconductivity over a period of time (nominally more than twenty years) based on novel and innovative concepts proposed by the individual, the authorship or co-authorship of a number of publications of major significance to the field of applied superconductivity, and the presentation of a number of invited and plenary talks at major national and international conferences and meetings\u201d [1].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the website of IEEE CSC [1], Professor Ogitsu has been awarded \u201cfor continuing and significant contributions in the field of large-scale applications of superconductivity, in particular:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>for the numerous contributions to the design, measurement and analysis of superconducting accelerator magnets for high-energy physics and medical applications, documented in an outstanding academic production, and in particular<\/li><li>for the development, construction, installation and commissioning of the superconducting magnet system of the J-PARC Neutrino Experiment, based on an innovative design of a combined functions superconducting dipole, and realized through significant leadership of a successful worldwide team effort.\u201d<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Comment of Prof. Ogitsu:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am very honored to receive this prestigious award. A major part of the reason for the award is the development, construction, installation, and commissioning of the superconducting magnet system for the J-PARC neutrino experiment, which was an important project for KEK. This result has been carried out by the Cryogenics Science Center in cooperation with the Cryogenic Group of the Institute for Particle and Nuclear Studies, Mechanical Engineering Center, and many organizations within KEK, as well as in international collaborations such as T2K, Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), and CERN. I am very honored to receive this award on behalf of my team. I would also like to thank the staffs at KEK and my many collaborators for their warm support, which has made me possible to work in this field for many years, not only in this project.
