The “Inter-University Research Institute Corporation Symposium” was held at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan) in Tokyo on October 20, 2019, and KEK Applied Research Laboratory presented a hands-on exhibit called “Let’s Experience the Vacuum!”

After one minute of turning on the vacuum pump, the inside of the round chamber became vacuum state, and the participants observed that the bell placed in the chamber was no longer audible and the glow discharge changed. Vacuum is one of the important basic technologies that support society, and KEK also uses vacuum in many places such as large accelerators and experimental apparatuses.
