KEK Professional training course for engineering staff \u201cInstrumental Analysis\u201d was held on March 11, 2021 from 13:00 to 16:40 at Chemistry Lab on Tsukuba Campus. Three engineering staff from Radiation Science Center served as lecturers. The course was mainly intended for engineering staff, but depending on the number of applications, non-engineering staff may also be able to participate.
The analytical instruments installed in Chemistry Lab can be applied for use and operated and measured by oneself as long as it does not interfere with the work of the Environmental Safety Office. In order to make measurements by oneself, it is necessary to understand the principle and learn how to operate them. This training course was designed to provide lectures and hands-on analysis practice on three types of analytical instruments capable of nondestructive qualitative analysis: tabletop X-ray diffractometer, tabletop electron microscope and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer, and Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometer, with the aim of acquiring basic instrument operation methods.
After a 45-minute classroom lecture on the principles of each instrument, the participants were divided into three groups of two for 55 minutes of hands-on practice with each instrument. Due to limited time, the participants were not able to fully master the instruments, they were able to learn the basic operation of the instruments by listening to the lecturer's explanation in front of the actual instruments and experiencing sample preparation and operation of the instruments by themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n
