Atsuto Suzuki KEK Director General
The Influenza A (H1N1) epidemic is gradually spreading out all over Japan.
So far the situation inside of KEK is under control, although there was one user infected and treated a while ago. However, I would like to remind you that practicing preventive measures, such as frequent washing of hands and gargling is important for us all to reduce the possibility of infection at anywhere. Preventive measures to be applied inside of KEK are now updated.
I appreciate if you can make others aware of this as much as possible.
Please follow the rules below.
- Refrain from entering KEK site if one has a symptom of flu such as above 38 Deg. C. body temperature, coughing, neuralgic pain
and so forth.
- If you would be visiting areas known to have an epidemic of H1N1, practice appropriate preventive measures to avoid infection.
- Conference, workshop organizers should take preventive measures such as; requesting people with a flu symptom to refrain from attending, making clinical thermometers, disinfectant liquid available to participants and so forth. Please submit the list of participants to Users Office after the conference/workshop is over.
- If an employee is found to have the flu symptoms, stay home and contact appropriate medical institute or local public health office right away and follow their instruction before going to a hospital or clinic. He/She is exempted from his/her work until found not infected by the H1N1 virus.
- If an employee is found infected by the H1N1 virus, CONTACT Health and Safety Office (Tsukuba Campus) or Tokai Campus Administration Office (Tokai Campus), and DO NOT come to work for 7 days after infected or until 2 days after the recovery. He/She is exempted from his/her work.
- If one is found that he/she was within 2 meters from an infected person, follow the instructions below.
6-1. Measure and record body temperature in the morning and in the evening for 7 days.
6-2. Practice all precautionary measures such as frequent washing and disinfecting hands, gargling, wearing surgical mask to prevent further spreading virus when you cough and so forth.
6-3. As KEK is a place to have so many people coming in, please wear surgical mask all the time.
(NOTE: People suffering from respiration disease, heart problems, diabetes, kidney trouble, immunodeficiency as well as pregnant women, infants and elderly people are the high risk group if infected by the H1N1. Extra-care is important for these. They may be exempted from work.)
- If the school (elementary school, kindergarten, nursery) your (KEK employee) child is going is closed due to the H1N1 and if you are the only one to take care of the child, you may be exempted to work. Same applies if someone of your family is in a nursery home which is closed due to the H1N1 and if you are the only one to take care of the person, you may be exempted to work.
- To reduce the further spreading of infection, some information on the infected employee such as date infection became clear, division he/she works, and what was done about it will be announced on the KEK web page accessible only by KEK employees.
