Acceleration of 8 GeV electron beams for KEKB succeeded in the injector linac!

The KEKB is an asymmetric, double-ring electron-positron collider, which is scheduled to start in autumn, 1998. The one ring stores 8-GeV electron beams, while the other is for 3.5 GeV positron beams. The injector linac has been upgraded for full energy injection to them (formerly at 2.5 GeV).

The upgrade project involves:

1) replacement of all klystrons by high-power ones.
2) attaching an rf pulse compressor to each klystron.
3) extension of the linac length by 1.5 times.

All these items have been carried out and electron beams at energy of 8 GeV
were successfully accelerated on 23 April, 1998.
