Professor Emeritus Hiromi Hirabayashi was awarded by the IEEE in USA by his great domestic and international contribution to the field of applied superconductivity. He was recognized as a winner of the IEEE Award for Continuing and Significant Contributions in the Field of Applied Superconductivity at the 18th International Conference of Magnet Technology held at Morioka, Japan, October 20 - 24, 2003.
He has made a large contribution to development of superconducting and cryogenic technologies and their applications in the field of high energy physics and accelerators. He exercised leadership as a pioneer of these technologies to lead R&D groups, and trained and encouraged young researchers. In the early stage of development of these technologies in Japan, he has developed bubble chambers, the superconducting pion beam line, superconducting magnets for high energy accelerators, superconducting detector magnets, and so on. His contribution has been large in the field of high energy physics and accelerators, and he has advanced the superconducting and cryogenic technologies.
According to his great domestic and international contribution to the applied superconductivity, he was awarded as a winner of the IEEE Award for Continuing and Significant Contributions in the Field of Applied Superconductivity.
