On October 26, a bending magnet was transported to and installed in the 50 GeV synchrotron area. A trailer truck delivered the magnet, which weighs around 35 tons, to the site.
Lowering the magnet 10 meters down to the ring area was a delicate operation. Using an overhead crane, it had to be kept horizontal to ensure that the load remained balanced.
Following the successful loading, the magnet was carried on an air-pallet (special cart), and moved into position. The construction of the 50 GeV ring is the responsibility of KEK. 20 KEK employees were engaged in this first magnet installation.
