The second France-Asia Particle Physics School (FAPPS'09) now underway from 5 Nov to 18 Nov at a human resources development center in
Fujiyoshida, Fuji Calm, is a 14-day program that aims to promote collaborations among young scientists from Asia and France.
Sponsored by the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) in France together with research organizations and universities from China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam, the program provides a series of schools on broad range of topics in particle physics. The first school was held
in Les Houches, France in 2008.
The second of the series targets doctor candidates in particle physics experiment from France and Asia, and is attended by around 45 qualified students. 26 front-line researchers from France and Asia (9 from France, 12 from Japan, 5 from other Asian nations) lecture on topics in
particles physics going from basics to front-line researches.
The school started off with a welcome speech by the director of Institute of Particle and Nuclear Studies, prof. Koichiro Nishikawa of KEK. The attendees visited the Belle laboratory, the Accelerator Test Facility (ATF), and the Photon Factory (PF) at KEK. The group then moved to Fujiyoshida, where a series of lectures will be delivered starting next day.
