International Committee for Future Accelerators (ICFA) was held at KEK on 12 and 13 February, 2009.
ICFA was established as a working group under the auspices of International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) in 1976. The purpose of this group is to foster the international cooperation on development and shared use of high energy accelerator facilities, and to investigate the necessary technology to construct the Super-Collider laboratory. The working group consists of the committee members from Japan, the U.S., Russia, China, Canada, and CERN member states.
The meeting started at night on 12th and ended at noon on the next day, and was attended by 31 members from the member states. The Funding Agency for Large Colliders (FALC) and International Linear Collider Steering Committee (ILCSC) reported on the issues related to the Large Colliders. The participants also exchanged information on the current status and plans for the future accelerator facilities in each nation, approved the next ILCSC chairperson, and held discussion on ICFA seminar to be held in 2011.

"Through ICFA, we hope to strengthen international collaboration, as well as to establish frameworks for promotion activities as a whole by identifying the division of the roles played by related parties, looking forward to the construction of the future Large Colliders," says Atsuto Suzuki, the Director General of KEK and the ICFA chairman (2009-2011), in his opening speech for this meeting which marked his first chairmanship.

Preceding the ICFA meeting on the same day, ILCSC meeting was held. The committee was originally proposed and organized at the 2002 ICFA conference to facilitate the International Linear Collider planning; more specifically, to encourage international collaboration, to enhance the partnerships with FALC and Worldwide Study (WWS), and to supervise Global Design effort (GDE). The meeting which was attended by 23 members reported on GDE and WWS activities and discussed the future direction of the committee.
