On January 7,
the City of Tsukuba awarded Makoto Kobayashi, Honorary Professor
Emeritus of KEK, with his honorary citizenship of Tsukuba to honor his
contribution to physics and the city.
During a New Year ceremony held by Tsukuba on that day, Kobayashi received
his honorary citizenship by Kenichi Ichihara, Mayor of Tsukuba, with superb
diploma and plaque.
"Tsukuba is my most familiar town where I have lived for nearly thirty
years," said Kobayashi, expressing his gratitude for all the
participants of the ceremony. "Refer to the theory which won the Nobel
Prize in Physics last year, Professor Maskawa and I developed it when we were in Kyoto.
But it was finally confirmed by cutting-edge experiments
including the KEK B-factory in this city. We are proud of their significant efforts."
