22-23 December, the Joint Asian Accelerator Workshop (JAAWS) was held at the Institute of High Energy physics (IHEP), in Beijing, China, as the first step for establishing a new initiative to promote stronger and more effective collaboration on R&D works in accelerator science and its application. The directors and leading scientists from core laboratories in five Asian countries - China, India, Japan, Korea and Russia - have gathered at a kickoff workshop to seek for possible future collaborations.
In the two-day workshop, they discussed about five application fields of accelerator science: R&D for innovative accelerators, accelerator and its related technologies for photon science, those for hadron (neutron) science, R&D for medical and industrial fields, and detector technology development. The participants shared value in combining the efforts by Asian countries to promote and advance the accelerator science and its applications.
Each laboratory will make further discussion on the outcome of the workshop, and will set the specific theme in each field for coming R&D collaborations. The second JAAWS meeting will be held in 2010.
