Pursuing cross-sectional collaboration with PSI using quantum beams

17 Oct, 2011

On October 3, 2011, the Institute of Materials Structure Science (IMSS) of KEK and the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) held a meeting at the PSI campus in Switzerland to discuss pursuing collaborations in cross-sectional research using quantum beams. Both IMSS and PSI have synchrotron radiation, neutron, and muon research facilities that would be used in this collaborative research.

At this meeting, participants reviewed the status of IMSS and PSI and reconfirmed the common features of these facilities. In addition, the participants toured the Swiss Light Source (SLS), the Swiss Spallation Neutron Source (SINQ), and the Swiss Muon Source (SμS), where each facility’s representatives provided detailed explanations of the facility’s features and capabilities.

Finally, the participants confirmed the potential for cross-sectional research and future collaborations based on each institute’s strong and weak points. They also agreed to work together to prepare a memorandum of understanding (MOU) collaborations.
