The IHEP-KEK director-level regular meeting was held on February 4, 2013 at the Institute of High Energy Physics Chinese Academy of Sciences (IHEP), Beijing, China.
This meeting, which is intended to be a place for the communication between director-level executives of IHEP and KEK, has been held regularly for the last ten years. Delegates this year included Dr. Wang Yifang (Director) and Dr. Wu Zhongyi (former Director) from IHEP, and Dr. Atsuto Suzuki (Director General), Dr. Yasuhiro Okada (Trustee), Dr. Masanori Yamauchi (Director, Institute of Particle and Nuclear Studies), and Kazuyoshi Yamada (Director, Institute of Materials Structure Science) from KEK. They mainly exchanged information and opinions regarding on-going research activities and future projects at each institute.
IHEP reported on the current status of various projects including the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment, the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider II (BPEC II), the China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS), and the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory, prompting a further collaboration with KEK in the future.
KEK outlined its next project and summarized the current status of SuperKEKB and Belle II experiments at Tsukuba campus and research on materials structure science and accelerators at Tsukuba and Tokai campuses. Moreover, the progress of collaboration between KEK and IHEP in each research area was reported, confirming that many collaborative research activities are progressing smoothly.
In addition, the delegates discussed further collaboration opportunities on Belle II, CSNS, Energy Recovery Linac (ERL), International Linear Collider (ILC), and innovative detector development. They agreed that close collaboration between the two laboratories should be at the core of high-energy accelerator science in Asia to advance the field.
The next regular meeting will be held in the spring or early summer of 2014.
