On June 25, an online joint press conference for the start of the asteroid Ryugu’s sample analysis and the facility tour was held.

This press conference was held jointly by KEK, Tohoku University Graduate School of Science, University of Tokyo Graduate School of Science, Osaka University, Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe at the University of Tokyo, and J-PARC Center, and was connected online between the Photon Factory and the MLF.

On the tour, Prof. Tomoki Nakamura of Tohoku University, Prof. Yoshio Takahashi of the University of Tokyo, and Associate Prof. Kazuhiko Ninomiya of Osaka University introduced the PF BL-3A, PF BL-19A, and MLF muon D2, respectively. In this session, Prof. Nakamura showed us the actual X-ray experiment using a real (not a dummy) Ryugu sample. We were not informed of this and it was a pleasant surprise!

The press conference and the part of the facility tour was broadcasted on NHK Ibaraki news.
