Further fundamental research in the neutrino oscillations field can be accomplished using reactor neutrinos. The smallest and still unmeasured theta13 mixing angle of the PMNS leptonic mixing matrix can be probed using a new generation of reactor neutrino experiments, such as the Double Chooz experiment. Such experiments aim to achieve unprecedented high statistics and low systematic uncertainties (<1% level). Probing theta13 via reactor neutrinos is a complementary to the effort being carried out by neutrino beam experiments. In my talk, I will briefly introduce the physics behind the theta13 mixing angle and illustrate how the Double Chooz collaboration intends to measure it. The core of my talk though will devoted to showing the latest results on the far detector commissioning (task for which that I am responsible) expected to be ready by the end of 2010. |
