ABSTRACT: |
A smart modulator has been developed using a constant-current inverter power
supply in order to meet the linear collider requirements such as high
reliability, compact and simple configuration, and good power efficiency.
The smart modulator provides 350-kV pulses of the pulse-to-pulse stability
of 0.35%. A more compact closed-type smart modulator for the SCSS X-FEL has
beam developed, of which all the parts are immersed in an oil-filled tank.
In order to provide useful X-FEL output, the RF stability has to be improved
at least 10 times more. The charging stability is the major factor
determining the RF stability. Therefore, the inverter system should provide
very stable charging performances. This talk presents the R&D for a stable
smart modulator with an inverter power supply. |
