TITLE: |
Echo-Enabled Harmonic Generation for seeded FELs - theory and experiment |

ABSTRACT: |
A recently proposed concept of the Echo-Enabled Harmonic Generation (EEHG) FEL uses two laser modulators in combination with two dispersion sections to generate a high-harmonic density modulation in a relativistic beam. This seeding technique holds promise of a one-stage soft x-ray FEL that radiates not only transversely but also longitudinally coherent pulses. The first experimental demonstration of the EEHG has been recently carried out at SLAC. In this talk I will introduce the EEHG concept, discuss some of the important physics issues, and review the SLAC experimental results. |
