In November 2005, very small amounts of tritium were detected in a stream flowing from the Fermilab site. Although the levels found posed no threat to human health or to the environment, the Fermilab management was quick to react in letting local residents know about the incident and kept a good contact channel with the local community. In this talk, efforts to locate the source of the tritium and how the laboratory took responsibility in the risk communication are discussed. |
