ABSTRACT: Zinc oxide (ZnO) has been attracting a lot of attention lately as one of the most promising materials for developing transparent couductive oxides (TCO). However, there are some technical problems to overcome if it is to be used widely in industry, replacing the now commonly-used Indium-Tin-Oxide (ITO). One of the obstacles is the not-so-high electrical conductivity of ZnO thin films as desired in many industrial applications. In this talk, I will describe our research to understand the origin of low conductivity in ZnO thin films by employing spectroscopic tools such as x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), uv photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS), x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) including near-edge structure (XANES) and extended fine structure (EXAFS).
