ABSTRACT: The Bloch wavefunction in solids are characterized by thegauge structure associated with the Berry phase curvature. This leads to a novel type of current, i.e., topological current, which is dissipationless in nature even without the macroscopic quantum coherence such as superconductivity. I will talk about some applications of this idea, e.g., anomalous Hall effect and spin hall effect. The relation to the quantum Hall physics is also stressed.
