| ABSTRACT: |
In this talk I will describe how the anomalous U(1) gauge symmetry of string origin, or a discrete remnant of it, may find application in solving some of the outstanding puzzles of the Standard Model. The problems addressed will include the fermion mass hierarchy, the strong CP problem, nucleon decay, as well as the mu problem and R parity of supersymmetry. Some experimental consequneces will be discussed. |
