TITLE: From RHIC to eRHIC - Spin Physics in the Next Decade

ABSTRACT: Spin plays a central role in QCD, and to understandspin phenomena in QCD will help to understand QCDitself. I will briefly review our current knowledgeof the spin structure of the nucleon gathered over thepast 30 years. Next I will discuss what we are hopingto learn from polarized proton-proton collisions at BNL-RHICin the next couple of years. I will review the underlyingtheoretical framework, recent progress in next-to-leadingorder calculations, and expectations for RHIC in some detail.By outlining the physics case for a future polarizedelectron-proton collider, I will argue that the planned eRHICfacility would be the next logical step in our quest to explorespin phenomena in QCD.
