| ABSTRACT: |
The classical origin of the pure spinor formalism for superstring is discussed. We derive the BRST operator central to the formalism from a reparametrization invariant worldsheet action. The action is equivalent to the Green-Schwarz action but has doubled spinor degrees of freedom and a compensating local fermionic symmetry. Extension of this derivation, aiming at the pure spinor type description of the eleven dimensional supermembrane is also briefly discussed. |
