TITLE: Space-time view of pair creation in strong electromagnetic fields

ABSTRACT: Pair creation in a uniform classical electromagnetic field (Schwinger mechanism) is studiedˇˇfocusing on the time evolution of the distribution of the created particles. The momentum distribution in the direction of the electric field (longitudinal direction) has not been known because any longitudinal momentum-dependence conflicts with the boost invaliant field configuration. We show the momentum dependence of the particle distribution arise from the quantization of the field which require to specify a Lorentz frame breaking the boost invariance. The time evolution of the distribution function in time-dependent fields is also presented as well as the effect of the back reaction.
