ABSTRACT: In this talk we will review the general framework of calculating amplitudes for strings scattering off a decaying D-brane in bosonic and supersymmetric Type II string theories. The calculations have dual interpretations in terms of Coulomb gas thermodynamics at equilibrium and grand canonical random matrix ensembles. The use of dual pictures allows us to find an estimate for an emission amplitude for n open strings from a decaying D-brane.
