ABSTRACT: A description of fragmentation functions which satisfy the momentum and isospin sum rules is presented in the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. Concentrating on the pion fragmentation function, take into account cascade-like processes in a generalized jet-model approach, and show that the momentum and isospin sum rules can be satisfied naturally without introduction of ad hoc parameters. The comparison with empirical fragmentation functions shows that the NJL-jet model is a very useful framework to describe semi-inclusive hard scattering processes.
