Light clothing 'the Cool Biz' for Summer 2019.
During the coming hot season and the hot season from May 1 through September 30, 2019, KEK would ask workers who
working inside of the office to follow the Cool Biz policy to promote energy-saving efforts.
To reduce energy costs, the Cool Biz campaign calls for workplaces to set their air conditioners to 28 degrees, and urges office
workers to ditch the usual ties, jackets and office wear in favor of casual clothes more suitable for Japan’s hot summers.
The government launched the Cool Biz campaign in 2005, with bureaucrats wearing casual clothes, including polo and even
aloha shirts, instead of the usual suit-and-tie combination.
Now in its 14th year, the Cool Biz has become the norm in the apparel industry, and even those who were initially against the
campaign have come to accept it as an annual event.
