NSRRC 2009 Users' Meeting

The 15th NSRRC Users’ Meeting will be held on October 15 - 16, 2009 in Hsinchu, Taiwan. Distinguished speakers have been invited to share their cutting-edge research during the sessions adding momentum on top of users’ briefings for nudging interactions among attendees. English will be the prime language through the meetings, except during the Users’ Town Meeting.

Poster presentations are included in the agenda for October 15. In the afternoon, there will be Users’ Town Meeting hosted by the User Executive Committee (UEC) as usual. During the session, the UEC expects to collect feedback and suggestions from current users, as a token to recommend strategic planning with NSRRC management. During the evening, six interest groups will each held a discussion session in parallel to explore possible opportunities of collaborative research.

On October 16, three specific topics are planned for the morning sessions.

Session I: Angle-resolved Photoemission
Three major fields of advanced researches conducted using high resolution Angle Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy (ARPES), are selected for this session, namely metal surfaces and thin films, organic semiconductors and thin films, and highly correlated and HTSC materials.

Session II: X-ray Synchrotron Radiation in Biomacromolecules:EXAFS & SAXS
Highlights the synchrotron x-ray spectroscopy applications in the area of bio-macromolecule structure determination are presented, in particular, modelcomplexes for active sites of metalloproteins, time-resolved protein folding dynamics,X-ray scattering and small angle scattering.

Session III: Industrial Application of Synchrotron Radiation
Several division head of Office of Industrial Applications will speak about the industrial applications in this session. Examples will be presented, covering successful case studies of X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and small angle scattering. The local examples will also play a key role in this meeting.

Setting its goal to recruit young generations to use synchrotron as their experimental tools, student oral presentation is always an important part of the NSRRC Users’ Meeting. A first prize will be provided with the “Glory of Taiwan” award. Banquet will be held as the awarding ceremony.
