From 20 to 23 September, KEK in Japan hosted a particle physics camp for high school student was held at KEK in Tsukuba, Japan. This camp called “Belle Plus” aims for high school students to have an experience the scientists’ life with real experiment equipments or data obtained form the Belle experiment. 23 students participated the program and enjoyed intense four-day program.
The Belle experiment is a particle physics experiment investigating CP-violation effects with massive amount of b-masons produced by the KEKB accelerator. The Belle experiment, together with the BABAR experiment at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory in the U.S., had provided experimental confirmation of the Kobayashi-Maskawa theory, and led them to win the 2008 Nobel Prize in Physics.
The Belle Plus provides the environment where the students without special physics knowledge can understand and learn the particle physics with fun. The program included introductory lecture of particle physics, facility tour of the KEKB accelerator and Belle detector, and practical work on the theme of students’ choices. The students gave group presentations about the examination results form their practical work followed by the eager discussion.
