The 2010 Linear Collider Workshop and the International Linear Collider Meeting (LCWS10&ILC10) were held on March 26-30 at the Friendship Hotel in Beijing. Both are the twelfth in their series and have become international forum for reviewing detector and accelerator designs of an electron-positron linear collider. They were co-organized by the World Wide Study of the physics and detectors for future linear e+ e- colliders (WWS), nearly 300 scientific researchers participated in the workshop.
Dr. CHEN Hesheng, the Director of the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) introduced the current projects at IHEP and China’s international collaboration in ILC R&D and in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). At the plenary session, 14 experts, including Dr. Atusto Suzuki, Chair of the International Committee for Future Accelerators (ICFA) and Dr. Barry Barish, GDE Director, reported on the latest ILC progress and the developments in the related fields. Dr. Rolf Heuer, the CERN Director-General, gave a video report on the latest LHC progress and the long-term development of CERN and its relationship with ILC, etc.
In the following three days, nearly 300 reports were made at the parallel sessions. Detailed discussions were conducted, ranging from ILC physics and accelerators to ILC costs and international cooperation.
The event has provided China with a chance to communicate with the ILC community. Dr. GAO Jie, co-chair of the workshop reported on China’s efforts involved in the ILC R&D. He mentioned that China will continue its efforts and cooperation in ILC super-conducting technologies, design of damping rings and accelerator test facility (ATF2), etc.
The event was closed on March 30th, and was culminated by an even bigger event in Geneva where the particle beams in the LHC were first collided at 7TeV, almost half of its designed value.
