Athena Program Participant at Radiation Science Center
Dr. Nurul Syazwina Mohamed visited KEK Radiation Science Center for the Athena program from January 14th to 31st, 2025. During her stay, she learned about gamma-ray measurement equipment related to her research. She also visited QST Chiba to learn about the medical applications of radiation and the use of compact accelerators.
In the measurement program, she attached Multi-Pixel Photon Counter (MPPC) and Photomultiplier Tube on both sides of a 5cm x 5cm x 30cm long CsI(Tl) scintillator to set up a system to read out the pulse height data from scintillation light. Using this setup, she conducted measurements with checking sources (Co-60 and Cs-137) to analyze the dependence of the detector response on the incident position of the gamma-ray. She also compared the results from two photosensors to understand their respective characteristics.
Additionally, she participated in the workshop "Radiation Detectors and Their Uses", where she gained new knowledge and engaged in discussions with other researchers. She also visited the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC) for a tour and received briefings on ongoing projects.
