Report KEK Theory Study Group 2023 – Lively Discussion on Quantum Field Theory and String Theory
December 1st, 2023.This was the latest in a series of workshops that have been held every year for more than 30 years to promote discussions of quantum field theory and string theory, which form the basis of elementary particle physics. This year it was held in person for the first time since the COVID pandemic. There were over 80 participants from Japan and abroad.
This time, we especially focused on various aspects of quantum gravity such as the information loss paradox in black holes, a new picture of the origin of the universe, and how our universe is described by superstring theory. Hot topics of new approaches to nonperturbative aspects of field theories such as resurgence, gradient flow, and generalized symmetries were also widely discussed.
There were seven invited lectures which discussed recent developments in these wide areas and the big picture behind them. Lively discussions took place not only during the talks but also during breaks and until dinner time.
In addition to this, there were 48 short talks. Parallel sessions in two rooms were held on the first and second days. Every talk was impressive, and the workshop was well received by all the participants.
