Report on The 12th WPI Science Symposium:

On November 23rd, 2023 ICReDD (WPI-ICReDD) hosted The 12th WPI Science Symposium for young students and the general public to present the forefront in informatics-related research at Hokkaido University.

The morning session included honored guests, researchers from the World Premier International Research Center Initiative (WPI) from all over Japan to discuss how informatics is used in latest cutting-edge research.

Speakers included:
● Research Accomplishment of Professor Hisashi Yamamoto, Molecular Catalyst Research Center, Chubu University
● Specially Appointed Professor Ichigaku Takigawa, Institute for Chemical Reaction Design and Discovery (WPI-ICReDD), Hokkaido University
Principal Investigator Yukie Nagai, International Research Center for Neurointelligence (WPI-IRCN), The Univers†ity of Tokyo
Team Leader Ryo Tamura, National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS)

In the afternoon session, PR representatives from each institute showcased their latest discoveries and attractions through flash talks, topical presentations, and roundtable discussions. Our own URA Kaoru Ogane, PhD, Research Administrator, appeared as a flash talk speaker and gave an overview of QUP.

In addition, each WPI center, exhibited a promotional booth. QUP presented a poster titled Searching for Dark Matter with QUP's New “Eye”, and displayed a geniune sensor to be installed in the LiteBIRD satellite. It was a very successful symposium for QUP as we engaged in captivating topics and discussion with curious members of the public.
