Multimessenger Astronomy Beyond the Standard Model and Quantum Sensing (Q-EYES 2025)

The international conference "Q-EYES 2025", hosted by the International Center for Quantum-field Measurement Systems for Studies of the Universe and Particles (WPI-QUP), was held at the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK) Tsukuba Campus from Tuesday, December 9 to Thursday, December 11, 2025.

Rapid advances in quantum sensing and detector technologies are enabling unprecedented sensitivity to extremely weak fields and forces. In parallel, recent breakthroughs in multimessenger astronomy are opening new observational windows on the Universe by combining information from electromagnetic radiation, gravitational waves, neutrinos and high energy particles as “cosmic messengers”. Together, these developments establish powerful new opportunities to probe fundamental physics. Theories beyond the Standard Model generically predict a variety of new quantum fields, which can manifest as previously undiscovered messengers accessible through both astrophysical observations and laboratory scale quantum measurement systems.

The conference aimed to facilitate the fusion of these distinct and historically disconnected research areas, linking laboratory quantum sensor technologies and techniques with astrophysical and high energy physics observations. By bringing together experts from diverse communities, the event sought to identify common methodologies, stimulate new cross-disciplinary collaborations and highlight the discovery potential of quantum measurement systems as new “eyes” on the Universe.

QUP Principal Investigator: Volodymyr Takhistov, the chairperson of the conference, remarked: “We aimed to facilitate the creation of a common language between communities that rarely interact connecting laboratory-scale quantum sensors with multimessenger and high energy physics observations of the Universe. The discussions highlighted how interdisciplinary research and technologies can play an increasingly important role in probing fundamental physics and stimulating discoveries beyond the Standard Model.”
