Research and development are in progress using STF (Superconducting rf Test Facility), ATF (Accelerator Test Facility) and CFF (Cavity Fabrication Facility) aiming at establishment and industrialization of a superconducting acceleration system or establishment of generation and control technology of a ultra-high quality beam that is indispensable for the next generation linear collider ILC (International Linear Collider).

Purpose and Vision
S1 global experiment in STFILC is a huge accelerator to be installed into the underground tunnel of the shape of a huge straight line over 30 km in full length. Installing an electron accelerator and a positron (antiparticle of electron) accelerator facing each other and colliding these particles at the center of the tunnel, we create high-energy reaction near the early stages of the universe and we approach the mystery of the universe creation, the mystery of time and space and the mystery of mass. Agreement on construction of this huge accelerator by international cooperation was made between many worldwide researchers of elementary particle or accelerator. To push the plan, international design team is organized and we Japanese researchers are promoting the research in close cooperation with world researchers.

In Japan, Linear Collider Project Office was established in 1977 for the drawing up of the whole plan of Linear Collider, adjustment of the research activities and smooth promotion of the work. In August 2004, superconducting technology was chosen to be basic technology of the linear collider main linac. In November 2004, the first ILC workshop was splendidly held at KEK with participation of directors of main world HEP laboratories and 220 of accelerator researchers.

Studies on accelerator are conducted by Asian, north American and Europe accelerator scientists and engineers forming a design team (GDE). KEK is grappling with the study centering the Linear Collider Project Office.
