Special admissions for applicants residing abroad
(Application Process for Privately Financed Students)
For international applicants residing abroad, special admissions for applicants residing abroad are available. Those admissions are conducted on schedules different from those of the general admission. Selections are, in most cases, made by documentary screening and online interviews, a procedure that enables international applicants to gain admission without coming to Japan.
Program and Application Period
?Three-year doctoral program for October 2021 admission:
The application period of the First Round is from October 1st to December 18th, 2020.
The application period of the Second Round is from April 1st to May 14th, 2021.
?Five-year doctoral program for October 2021 admission:
The application period of the First Round is from October 1st to December 18th, 2020.
The application period of the Second Round is from April 1st to May 14th, 2021.
The Application Process of Japanese Government Scholarship Students
The Japanese government (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, and Technology [MEXT]) offers scholarships to foreign students who wish to study at Japanese universities, including SOKENDAI, as graduate-level research students.
Application method for the MEXT scholarship:
?Through a university (e.g., SOKENDAI)
1) University Recommendation - Priority Graduate Program -
Limited to students enrolling in October 2021 and October 2022. The application deadline will be scheduled in December of the previous year.
The application deadline for October 2021 admission is December 18th, 2020.
2) University Recommendation
The application deadline will be scheduled in November every year.
The application deadline for October 2021 admission is November 13th, 2020.
