Associate Professor at Waseda Business School.

Graduated from the Faculty of Environmental Information at Keio University in 2000. Completed a Master's program in Media and Governance at the same university in 2002. Earned a Ph.D. in Management from the University of California, San Diego in 2015. Positions held include Research Associate at Keio University, Lecturer at the University of California, San Diego, Research Associate at Stanford University, and Assistant Professor at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies. Since 2017, he has held his current position. Notable concurrent appointments include Visiting Associate Professor at Stanford University in Social and Environmental Engineering, and Visiting Associate Professor at the Business School of the University of California, San Diego.
Involved in talent development in science and medicine, and ecosystem creation centered around universities in both Japan and the U.S. He participates deeply in Japan's innovation policy as a member of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's Industrial Structure Council Innovation Subcommittee, a member of the Cabinet Office's "Meeting for Strategies to Deliver the Latest Medications to the Public through Enhanced Drug Discovery," and a member of Keidanren's "Science to Startup Task Force."

Research Content

His specialties include technology management, entrepreneurship, innovation, and science and technology policy. His research areas are categorized into three parts: (1) institutional design of academic institutions for innovation creation, (2) startup management, and (3) star scientists.

Recent publications include "Management of Science and Technology for Innovators" (solo author, Toyo Keizai Inc.), "Scientific Thinking Training: 25 Questions to Dramatically Improve Decision Making" (solo author, PHP Business New Book), "Management of Failure Produces Innovation" (featured in the March 2020 issue of DIAMOND Harvard Business Review), "Innovation & Social Change: The Stanford Mindset for Creating the Future" (co-authored, Asahi Shimbun Publications), "Innovation in East Asia" (co-authored, Sakuhinsha), and "Education and Society Change with Globalization and Digitalization" (co-authored, Toshindo).
