Report on "the WPI Science Symposium"

On November 23, the WPI Science Symposium "Science Opens Up Infinite Possibilities" was held at the University of Tokyo's Ito Hall (simultaneous online event).

This 11th symposium, hosted by the WPI International Research Center for Neurointelligence (WPI-IRCN), featured three different speakers on the theme of "What are scientists thinking and what kind of future are they working toward? Three scientists from various fields gave talks on the theme "What are Scientists Thinking about, and What Future Are They Aiming for?

(Speakers)
Professor Kazuyo Moro,
Immunology Frontier Research Center (WPI-IFReC), Osaka University
Associate Professor Andrew Chapman,
International Institute for Carbon-Neutral Energy Research (WPI-I2CNER), Kyushu University
Visiting Professor Yu Hayashi,
International Institute for Integrative Sleep Medicine (WPI-IIIS), University of Tsukuba

WPI-QUP's Senior Scientist Hideo Iizuka participated as a moderator in the panel discussion that followed, together with the three scientists, on the topic of "What it means to be a scientist. During the debate, many questions were asked by the audience and online. The scientists, each with different experiences, gave a wide range of answers that will provide hints for junior and senior high school students as they think about their future.

In addition, each WPI center, which conducts the world's most advanced fusion research, exhibited a booth in Ito Hall. It was a very useful symposium for WPI-QUP, as we met with students and members of the general public who came to the symposium and heard valuable discussions.
