Niconico Chokaigi 2024 and WPI-QUP

This past weekend at NicoNico Chokaigi 2024 on April 27th - 28th, High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK) exhibited “Cho KEK”. Here, the International Centre for Quantum-field Measurement Systems for Studies of the Universe Particles (WPI-QUP) also participated in a live broadcast talk and workshop to introduce QUP’s research.

During the live broadcast, Dr. Hideo Iizuka, a principal investigator at QUP, presented his research on Casimir force. Casimir Force attracts two objects towards each other when they are brought close together to a very narrow distance of less than 1/1000 mm. Hideo’s ambition is to control the Casimir Force to develop frictionless bearings and improve the search for new forces in basic physics. Hideo also offers lectures on Casimir Force in QUP’s YouTube series Dr. Iizuka’s Physic’s Lectures

Along side many attractive exhibits, QUP gave a demonstration on how to create a simple polarized filter with cellophane tape to experience the wonder of polarized light. This educational display gave visitors some insight into QUP detectors for polarization observation of the CMB.
