KEK KAKENHI Writing Seminar - Let's Prepare an Effective Research Story for Your Proposal
On Tuesday, July 30, WPI-QUP organized a KAKENHI Writing Seminar entitled “Let's Prepare an Effective Research Story for Your Proposal” in collaboration with the alliance promotion department of the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK). The seminar targeted foreign researchers planning to apply for KAKENHI (Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research) funding, particularly for the KAKANHI programs with a September submission deadline. The event was held in a KEK seminar hall with approximately 45 participants in attendance.
The invited speaker was URA Makoto Shida from Institute for the Advanced Study of Human Biology (WPI-ASHBi), Kyoto University. He is a highly regarded lecturer on KAKENHI for non-Japanese researchers. After introducing the application procedures and review system, he provided knowledge on effective storytelling techniques for writing a research proposal, incorporating the perspective of reviewers.
During the Q&A session, there were discussions on the pros and cons to write the applications in Japanese or in English. After the seminar, participants shared positive feedback, with one attendant said, "After hearing the presentation, I felt encouraged to begin the application process with what I can do."
