Under Secretary for Science of U.S. DOE visited KEK

   

The Honorable Paul M. Dabbar, Under Secretary for Science of United States Department of Energy (DOE) visited KEK’s Tsukuba campus on October 9th.

First, DG Masanori Yamauchi welcomed the visitors and mentioned his deep appreciation to DOE’s long support toward the valuable U.S.-Japan Science and Technology Cooperation Program in High Energy Physics which is an important cooperation scheme for KEK with the U.S. colleagues. The Hon. Dabbar replied by commenting his interest to visit KEK using the opportunity to visit Japan this time where he participated in the annual meeting of Science and Technology in Society forum (STS forum) held in Kyoto. During this welcome meeting, KEK participants gave explanation about activity status on J-PARC and IMSS, progress of Belle II International Collaboration Experiment and update on ILC project.

Afterward, the Hon. Dabbar visited KEK’s Belle II detector and toured STF and ATF.

DOE and KEK agreed on “the Project Arrangement under the Implementing Arrangement between the Department of Energy of the United States of America and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan Concerning Cooperation in Research and Development in Energy and Related Field Concerning High Energy Physics” signed on October 6, 2015 based on “the Implementing Arrangement between the Department of Energy of the United States of America and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan Concerning Cooperation in Research and Development in Energy and Related Fields” signed on April 30, 2013.
